LONELY PLANET'S OFFICIAL ITINERARY INFORMATION

Itinerary: Bali - Surfing Safari

Untitled Document You can have an endless summer in under a 100km radius in Bali. No matter the season, there’s a break for you.

Start where surfing in Asia was born, Kuta Beach. Next head to the coast around Canggu, where the water is wild and the beaches all but empty. For a classic scene there’s Medewi further west, where people surf, sleep and then surf some more. Now, scoot south for the incredible challenges of the many breaks around Bingin and Ulu Watu. Here you can find legendary surfing in unadorned places where it feels as though little has changed in decades. Just working your way through the more than half-dozen breaks will take days.

In the east at Nusa Dua, the luxury hotels aren’t the only things rising above the horizon – there’s often great surf as well. North at Sanur you can pause to wax your board… but why bother? Get one of the boats out to Nusa Lembongan where you can get a room with a view of three legendary breaks for little more than the cost of good wax.
