LONELY PLANET'S OFFICIAL ITINERARY INFORMATION

Itinerary: Diver's Delight

Kick off at Pulau Perhentian where colourful reef fish, sea turtles, manta and blacktip reef sharks can be spotted. Move on to Pulau Redang, one of Malaysia's most spectacular dive sites - nine islands surrounded by fine coral reefs and very clear water, or the much less visited gem of Pulau Lang Tengah. The Seribuat Archipelago offers the same super dive conditions as nearby Pulau Tioman minus the crowds; the most accessible islands are Besar, Sibu and Rawa, but the best diving is around Pemanggil and Aur.

Over on Malaysian Borneo all the dive hot spots are in Sabah. Pulau Labuan offers wreck diving around sunken WWII boats. You'll certainly not want to miss spectacular Pulau Sipadan, a world-class site with beautiful coral gardens, sea turtles, sharks and huge varieties of reef fish. The real pros will want to finish up at Pulau Layang Layang, part of the famous Borneo Banks - here both shallow reefs and impressive drop-offs play host to shoals of tuna, barracuda and hammerhead sharks.
