TWO WEEKS / TANGIER TO CHEFCHAOUEN
Pack your dancing shoes and head for Morocco’s Mediterranean Coast.
Begin in
Tangier, home of Morocco’s hottest nightlife – from drinking holes of legend to dance clubs where you can wave your hands in the air like you just don’t care. The sunset viewed from
Cap Spartel is a fine antidote to your hangover.
Ceuta may be a Spanish outpost on the wrong side of the straits, but it’s an essential stop along a shoreline that takes the best and worst of Europe and grafts them onto the African coast. Apart from anything else, it has great bars with plenty of multicultural drinking buddies.
Tetouan also has Hispano-Moorish architecture and the Iberian influence spills over into the rowdy bars where the abundant tapas ensure that you never drink on an empty stomach. That’s just as well because you’ll need to be at your best to appreciate the tortuous drive along the coast to
Oued Laou, winding as it does around the precarious mountain cliffs with the Mediterranean waves crashing below.
Continue on to
Chefchaouen, the heart of the Rif mountains, and where the cool mountain air and good vibrations will seduce you for as long as you let yourself be swept away.
