Getting Started

Untitled Document

With ancient ruins from many great civilisations, medieval souqs, fascinating cities, and beautiful mountains and valleys all located in a reasonably compact area, you can cover a lot of territory in a small amount of time in Syria and Lebanon.

In general terms, both countries suit all budgets, but there are cities and towns that some travellers would prefer to visit on a day trip where there’s no suitable accommodation. While getting around these destinations may appear a little challenging at first – often because of the myriad methods of getting from A to B – you’ll soon find yourself travelling like a local! Having mastered this, you’re well on the way to getting to know these intriguing destinations.

DON’T LEAVE HOME WITHOUT…

Checking the latest travel advisory warnings.
Getting a new passport if your current one contains an Israeli stamp.
Ensuring you have proof of the relevant vaccinations for the region.
Applying for a Syrian visa and checking the current visa status for Lebanon.
Making copies of important documents – main passport pages, travel insurance details and original receipt for travellers cheques.
Carrying an Arabic phrasebook – a ‘salaam ’alaykum’ (‘peace be upon you’) will get you far and bring smiles to faces!
Packing that little black dress or a going-out shirt, and good shoes – if you’re planning a night out in Beirut.
