LONELY PLANET'S OFFICIAL ITINERARY INFORMATION

Itinerary: Britain for Kids

'Are we there yet?' Follow this suggested route, and you soon will be.

Start at Origins in Norwich, an interactive museum that includes big-screen historic panoramas, and hands-on opportunities to flood the Fens. Then to London, where the scope of child-friendly attractions is mesmerising, and across to Bristol to the interactive science museum Explore, and on to Cardiff for fairy-tale castles and up-to-the-moment Techniquest.

Touch down at the National Space Centre near Leicester, where highlights include interplanetary displays, zero-gravity toilets and germ-devouring underpants. We know why kids love it. And it is rocket science. Hungry after crossing the galaxy? No problem. Next stop is Cadbury World near Birmingham, a lip-smacking exploration of chocolate production and consumption. Make sure those samples settle in tiny tummies before riding the rollercoaster at Alton Towers.

Then turn north to Glasgow's ultramodern Science Centre, complete with IMAX cinema and interactive science mall, a bounty of discovery. From here, it's a hop to Dundee and Sensation, for more hands-on, and heads-in, activity.

Finish at Our Dynamic Earth in Edinburgh, a special-effects marvel recreating the planet's history from the Big Bang to tea-time.
