LONELY PLANET'S OFFICIAL GUIDEBOOK INFORMATION
Getting Started
Here's a handy slogan to keep in mind while planning your trip: Britain is a breeze. Travel here is simple compared to many other parts of the world, and in this compact country you're never far from the next town, the next national park, the next pub, or the next impressive castle on your hit-list of highlights.
DON'T LEAVE HOME WITHOUT...
Travel in Britain is not like crossing the Sahara or exploring the Amazon. Anything can be bought as you go (including Vegemite), so our advice is to take only what you absolutely need, which may include:
- a rain jacket
- comfortable shoes (the sort your granny would call 'stout')
- a small day-pack for sightseeing (and for carrying that rain jacket when the sun shines)
- a taste for beer that isn't icy cold
- listening skills and a sense of humour
