Itinerary: Oh, to be a kid again
Traveling with children is a good excuse to do all the things you're too old to do on your own anymore without feeling like, you know, an overgrown kid - the truth is, Disneyland is fun! In addition to the highlights here, most of the entries for major cities have a 'City for Children' section listing many more ideas.
The original Disneyland is in California, and nearby is Legoland, but the mecca for theme parks is Orlando, Florida: Walt Disney World is but the largest of a dozen or more. In Washington, DC , the mall museums are very kid-worthy, while Baltimore has a truly outstanding aquarium and duckpin bowling.
Beaches are no-fail destinations, but in particular seek out the old-fashioned boardwalk at Santa Cruz, as well as family-friendly Daytona Beach, Florida; Myrtle Beach, South Carolina; and Jones Beach, Long Island.
For winter fun, Colorado's ski resorts at Aspen and Vail have notably strong kid programs - perhaps so mom and dad can enjoy a little slope time?
Nearly all national parks gear some of their hikes and programs for little legs and minds, though Zion , Yosemite, Yellowstone and Great Smoky Mountains are particularly good.
