TWO WEEKS / POREC TO DUBROVNIK
Think you’ve already seen the Mediterranean? Think again. This 660km route takes you through the Mediterranean the way it used to be. Unspoiled fishing villages and ancient towns dot a rugged coastline, and a smattering of offshore islands rises out of the sparkling water.

Start your journey in the town of Porec, admiring the World Heritage Euphrasian Basilica. After being dazzled by the Byzantine frescoes, relax in one of the surrounding resorts. Head south to the Venetian-inspired architecture of Rovinj and splash in the waters off Crveni Otok.
Wander Rovinj’s cobblestone streets for a day, then go on to Pula, where you can tour the evocative Roman ruins and amphitheatre before heading to the beach for some R and R. Don’t forget to sample one of the fine restaurants in the evening. After two days in Pula, head north, stopping for a night in the old Austrian resort of Opatija for a healthy stroll along the seaside promenade and gorgeous views of the Kvarner coast. From nearby Rijeka you can take a catamaran to tranquil Rab. After wandering the ancient town, relax on the aptly named Paradise Beach at Lopar. Re-board the catamaran and go on to Novalja on the island of Pag for sunbathing during the day and dancing at night. Continue to historic Zadar for the wealth of museums and churches, promenade strolls, café life and a bar scene. Head on south to energetic Split, a great base to explore the beaches of Brela and, on Brac, Bol. From Split, it’s a short boat hop to Hvar and the offshore Pakleni Islands, and then on to unique Korcula, birthplace of Marco Polo. Cap off the coastal journey with a leisurely stay in Dubrovnik, the walled city on the Adriatic. Explore the gleaming marble streets with their profusion of fine sculpture and the gorgeous nearby island of Mljet with its inland lakes.
