LONELY PLANET'S OFFICIAL GUIDEBOOK INFORMATION
Getting Started

Croatia has decades of experience in welcoming travellers, whether in luxurious hotels, modest family-owned
pensions (guesthouses) or beachfront camping grounds. Advance planning is a good idea in peak season (mid-July through August), especially if you’ll be staying on one of the islands. Car ferries to and from Italy and among the islands can fill up at that time. At any time of year, pay close attention to the ferry schedules to the islands as they change with the seasons. Taking ferries from island to island is particularly tricky; don’t count on a daily ferry connection. You may have more flexibility than you think in July and August, but a lot less from September to June.
