LONELY PLANET'S OFFICIAL ITINERARY INFORMATION

Itinerary: The Golden Triangle

ONE WEEK

This classic Delhi-Agra-Jaipur route, affectionately dubbed 'The Golden Triangle,' takes you to some of India's most renowned sights, including the iconic Taj Mahal. Beginning and ending in India's bustling capital, Delhi, this itinerary is especially suited to those who have limited time in North India.

This much-loved Delhi-Agra-Jaipur jaunt starts and ends at the Golden Triangle's 'tip', Delhi. You can cover this route in a week, but a few extra days are recommended.

On day one immerse yourself in history at Delhi's National Museum and Humayun's Tomb before shop-hopping.

On day two ramble around Old Delhi's historic Red Fort and Jama Masjid before diving into the old city's rambunctious bazaars.

On day three make an early morning start southeast for Agra so you have adequate time at the enchanting Taj Mahal and Agra Fort.

Spend day four wandering around the fortified ghost city of Fatehpur Sikri and, if time permits, sneak a peek at Akbar's Mausoleum.

On day five start early for Jaipur to check out its medley of sights.

Spend day six exploring Amber, 11km north of Jaipur, and nearby Jaigarh, before haggling for souvenirs back at Jaipur's spirited bazaars.

On day seven return to Delhi.
