Itinerary: The Land of Kings Loop
Beginning and ending in Delhi, and incorporating a stop at Agra and Fatehpur Sikri, this popular itinerary covers Rajasthan's prime attractions. In a state that's bursting with things to see and do, the more time you devote to this region, the more rewarding your trip will be.
After a week or so of soaking up the sights of Delhi, Agra and Fatehpur Sikri, stop at Bharatpur's bird-brimming Keoladeo Ghana National Park before discovering the delights of Rajasthan's dusty-pink capital, Jaipur. From Jaipur you could pop into Pushkar, especially abuzz during the camel fair, then journey southwest to palace-studded Udaipur, pausing en route at Chittorgarh. However, if you're a wildlife buff, from Jaipur visit the Ranthambore National Park, tiger-spotting territory, before moving southwest to Udaipur, via beguiling Bundi and Chittorgarh. From Udaipur you might like to squeeze in a side journey to Mt Abu before travelling north to Jodhpur, stopping at Ranakpur on the way. From Jodhpur, carry on to honey-golden Jaisalmer and plod through the desert on a camel safari before jumping northeast to see Bikaner and the nearby rat-riddled Karni Mata Temple. Conclude your Rajasthan ramble by crisscrossing through earthy Shekhawati, speckled with frescoed havelis (traditional ornately decorated residences), before returning to Delhi.
