Peru had a rich cultural life thousands of years before Pizarro turned up in funny clothing. Wander around colonial cities that echo the legacy of Spanish conquistadors, explore the ancient Inca capital of Cuzco, visit the lost city of Machu Picchu and ponder the enigma of the Nazca Lines. Peru also boasts some of the most spectacular scenery in South America. The beautiful Peruvian Andes issue a siren's call to top-class trekkers. These mountains are also home to squillions of indigenous highlanders, who still speak the ancient tongue of Quechua and live a traditional way of life.

Ok, so we caught a bus from Lima to Cuzco.  It took 21 hours.  The bus was o.k and we even played bingo on the way (go figure).  We arrived in Cuzco at around 11 am but the altitude realy hit us and we spent most of the day just laying about the hotel.... Read more >

I finally got up some photos. Since Abancay, I´ve spent a few more days in Cusco, went to a birthday party, went out dancing, and said hasta luego to the city. Leaving was a sad day. But, I met new friends in Puno, and toured the islands of Uros (the ... Read more >

had enjoyed Mancora but it was time to move on.  Our next stop was a town called Trujillo and involved another overnight bus.  I slept pretty much all of the way, waking up just as we arrived.   It was about 6am and we were leaving for Huaraz that night ... Read more >

Mancora

I was sad to leave Ecuador, I had far preferred it to Peru to date.  The scenery was something else, the country just seems a little more advanced and the people happier.  We had heard horror stories about the border crossing from Ecuador into Peru and ... Read more >

Read more >

The Adventure Begins... In the Many Airports

Thu, 15 Oct 2009 | By mcorak | Views [21]

16/10/09 – 6:10 AM Lima-Time (4:10a at home) It wasn’t until I landed in Lima did I really feel as though an adventure had begun…   Navigating the airport on my own gave me a surge of independence. I felt so ‘seasoned’ traipsing around a foreign ... Read more >

So, it all began on Wednesday morning with me wandering through the streets of Cusco wondering what was left to see around here. I saw a picture outside a travel agency of some ruins called Choquequirao, so I inquired about them. A four-day hike? I´ve ... Read more >
