    There is hope in the eyes and smiles of the children of Uganda. They are eager to learn and driven by curiosity. There is joy found in the simplest of moments and a sense of community that isn't often seen in more developed countries. These young children were playing along the road with tires and buckets, deeply immersed in their own world of make-believe. While many are in the early stages of education, they avidly yell out affectionate phrases of Many of the schools in Uganda are underfunded and in desperate need to accommodate the growing number of children. Both private and public schools are in need of financial support to give their kids the best chance at an education. This school near Jinja was a private school that met us with an infectious curiosity, open arms, lively song, and inspiring dance. Their hope is inspire visitors to believe in them and support the future of their education. A majority of the kids at this school are orphans with little or no financial support. The teachers and community are their hope at a better future. by: audreyjeane Views[1318] Many women in Uganda ( like the one pictured here) are creating a hopeful future for their children by making and selling necklaces to pay for a better education. Women make less than $10 a month and a good education can cost up to $350 a year. Women in this village have a partnership with a US based charity called BOH to help sell their products in the USA. The program is empowering women to sustain a business that not only supports their children's education but supports their needs as a family. by: audreyjeane Views[717] In Xinjiang, it is not an uncommon sight to see men crowd around in small groups taking part in some kind of culinary sharing sessions. What I've noticed is that they were usually male dominated. As such, this young girl caught my immediate attention. She struck me as a non-conformist, someone who goes out of the way to satisfy her own curiosity and acquire more knowledge, even if it's unconventional. I find myself standing there, observing her learning intently, in absolute amazement.     Kids are taught by rote, so they know how to rattle off the answer but to think critically is another thing all together. They also had no idea where Australia is. Mind you, the average Aussie student would have no clue where Gulu is. by: sharoncrean Views[408] Education is so prized that primary school kids will come to class even on Saturdays. In Gulu this was one of only a few empty classrooms. Unused stoves and cooking implements are held in storage here for use when learners attend hospitality/catering lessons. by: leighat_durban Views[400] Achieving Together: A large pile of chopped wood rests against the wire school fence. The wood is collected for use in building fires for the cooking of school meals. Volunteers work together quietly and efficiently to sort the pots for the food distribution while learners wait, and watch eagerly, from their desks. by: leighat_durban Views[617] Taking Stock: A community volunteer involved in food preparation for the school nutrition programme, wipes a plate with dishwashing detergent. She eagerly smiled and asked me to take her picture but stopped smiling as soon as I raised the camera.
