17/04/2009. Streets with no name. Blikkiesdorp, Delft. Cape Town, South Africa. Ouma Johanna Stanley is walking down one of the alleys in Blikkiesdorp. Blikkiesdorp, or Tin Town as it is also known, in Delft is the first Multiracial TRA (temporary relocation area) in Cape Town.

When I started taking photographs in Blikkiesdorp, the camp housed 4000 people. Today 25000 people call Tin-Town home. Ouma Johanna passed away during the World Cup in South Africa in 2010. She died of starvation and TB.

(What gives life to this image: Ouma Johanna is walking away towards her structure after the interview, the wind pick up her dress as she steps forward. The woman in the background is almost a mirror image of ouma, walking on the same foot in the same direction. The color of the overcast sky is reflected in the metal structures. Little did I know that Ouma would die of starvation and that 21000 people would also move into the camp in the next 3 years. Ouma is on a road with endless possibilities, moving nowhere slowly.)
