         		 Looking towards the peak of Croagh Patrick. where Saint Patrick made a pilgrimage to the peak and fasted for 40 days and 40 nights. At the end of each July thousands of pilgrims climb the holy mountain, some barefoot, some on their hands and knees (which would really suck because it's covered in scree). There is a stone abbey on top of the mountain, but it is not the stone you find on the mountain, but one found kilometres away by the bay, so the monks would have had to carry it all the way up.: by neri, Views[580]

    A view of Kylemore Abbey, built in the 19th Century for a wealthy English business man who spent his honeymoon in Connemara and fell in love with the place. It took 12 years to build and he kept it asecret from his wife the whole time. Finally he unveiled his surprise and the family moved in, but 2 months later the wife died of a mysterious illness. A few weeks after that, both his daughters were killed in a freak horse riding accident. So he sold it to the nuns and went back to England a broken man, thinking the place was cursed. It is now an ultra-exclusive boarding school: by neri, Views[501]
         		 The next lot of photos are all in a little town called Bundoran, which is quite beautiful but has a tacky 'seaside resort' side to it too, with the ubiquitous seaside funfair that seems to be in every seaside town in Ireland, and this one's a bit bigger than most. Bundoran is one of the famous surf breaks in Ireland, and can apparently get really good, but the weather was crap when I was here. The coastline is quite beautiful, and there are mountains just behind the town that are almost always shrouded in mist.: by neri, Views[830]

         		 This place was pretty amazing, its called Carrowmore Megalithic Cemetary, and it's the largest stone age cemetary in Ireland. The oldest tomb here was built about 5400 BC. It's basically a big field with all these piles of rock and delicatley balanced stone structures scattered around, but the history is amazing: by neri, Views[337]
