         		 I tried a few times to bring some motion to Ffion which payed off in this shot, as she continued to climb about this dramatically lit stairwell. I loved everything about this train station, the lighting, the stone passages plastered with graffiti, the bold angles, and brilliant colours.          		 I remember laughing a lot taking this shot. We were so determined to maintain high spirits during our three our wait. The contrast in lighting from the platform above looked great as Ffion went through great lengths to keep us both entertained.     The subway path between the two platforms had a real character to it. The dim lighting with colourful graffiti, and beautiful local stone made a great setting for us playing a little plastic bottle football to pass the time, as we waited for our train. : by alfiealf, Views[490]

         		 This washing hangs against the back wall of the island’s Church of Saint Martin. The old school of lacemaking stood behind me as this image was taken. Even these buildings could not escape being coated in pastel splendour.          		 As the day draws steadily to its close, Burano women discuss parochial matters outside their houses. Meanwhile, washing lines lean this way and that, their form echoed metres above them by communication wires.          		 Burano is famed for its lace, mostly – though not totally – produced by women. This female resident is one of a fading generation of traditional lace makers.          		 The island’s elegant, pastel-coloured houses provide mental serenity and harmonise with the glorious natural setting. Sun-dappled and free from any pressure to modernize, Burano’s land forms are linked by quaint bridges around every corner, much like its noisy neighbour Venice.     Burano is a calm and sleepy island in the Venetian Lagoon. I visited in September, the late summer attracting fewer tourists.
