The streets are often bustling with foreign tourists since it forms the center of Kathmandu’s tourist industry.          		 The climb up to Namche Bazaar on the second day of the trek was probably one of the toughest days for me. By the time we reached our tea lodge, I was already suffering from exhaustion and altitude sickness. Fortunately, we had an extra day to recuperate and acclimatize. I remember times spent gathered around the communal stove for warmth - sipping tea and attempting to read words from books.     The trek to the base camp of Mount Everest is an iconic endeavor. It's one place I've felt that the universe has conspired to create a precarious balance to make this achievement possible. Having embarked on the journey earlier this year, I didn't want to dwell on the place I've visited, but instead the elements and circumstances that got me there. This is the airport at Lukla - where one flies in from Kathmandu to embark on the trek to EBC. Lukla airport is one of the most dangerous airports in the world. With the tilted runway the size of a bandaid, the pilots have to be skilled enough to ensure that the small planes don't fall off the edge of the cliff on one side, or crash into the mountain wall on the other.          		 Not much grows up here, except memories. Sherpa Prem stands at the top of a glacier ridge where only the faint cracks of slow moving ice can be heard. “Not much grows up here, but memories’, he says softly in broken English, supported by a humble smile. His dream one day is to travel to Australia for the first time to discover the outback, but saving money in Nepal takes many years.          		 Each wrinkle signifies a stone laid. A prayer reading, sun-kissed Nepalese laborer sits in his donated plastic chair on the high trail out of Namche Bazzar. Living only off small donations from passing trekkers, he dedicates his life to laying stone with his bare hands, in order to keep the trail accessible throughout the year. His efforts have literally paved the way for thousands of locals and tourists for years, whilst keeping the trail clean from waste and erosion.          		 To Grow is to Grow. Perched high above street level, the growing number of ‘city farms’ can be seen from rooftop to rooftop. This is the latest push in sustainable food harvesting in the Kathmandu Valley. Small setup’s can provide both fruit and vegetables for families living in high-rise styled buildings, and it’s reported that families are saving up to 9,000Rs on grocery bills a month. As day slowly gives away to the night, the city here is beautifully juxtaposed by the Godawari hills in the background, standing tall as a constant reminder that nature still continues to thrive functionally in it’s pristine, untouched state. : by gezismxavier, Views[636]
         		 Selling music to the Dark. Seeking shelter from Pokhara's daytime heat, an enclosed mall leads me off the main street. Here, at the end sat a tiny, traditional music shop, complete with a pipe smoking owner and skipping discman. Dusty, handcrafted instruments hung for sale on the walls. An unfinished example of what was to become an instrument lay next him. With no intention to buy, I smile and leave feeling somewhat saddened by his visual surroundings. A long tunnel where he sat watching and waiting for someone to come in and purchase something.     Pop up Shop. Discovering the colourful and dusty streets one morning in Thamel, I come across a farmer selling fruit to a tourist-populated hotspot. His impressive mobile shop allows fruit to be sold whilst on the move, traveling to the markets and restaurants scattered in the Valley. Custom made circular panniers are constructed using old pipe and fish net which allow him to carry larger loads than those still carting traditional timber boxes.
