         		 It can be a long day here fishing Chit says as his friend pulls in a small fish. They often stay late into the night fishing. He says they catch all sorts of fish including snapper, kahawi, trevally. I ask Chits unspoken friend if he is happy with his catch? He just looks and smiles. : by kiwi-with-a-camera, Views[771]

    Fishing here is not the same as back home, he tells me. Back home Chit used to tie fishing lines to overhanging trees then leave and comeback later to see if anything had taken his line.
         		 Here a Gannet colony overlooks these tiny fishermen below. Chit says he try's to come here as often as he can to fish, when he's not working as a gib boarder. He says he is cautious though and knows the dangers of rock fishing in the wrong conditions.          		 At Murawai beach there is a place fisherman come to test themselves against the elements and ocean. On a long flat rocky outcrop stretching out into the ocean, this is where I met Chit (far right) and his none english speaking friend; both from Myammar, Burma. Chit tells me he and his friend left from Myammar several years ago because as he puts it,

         		 At the end of the day, as I made my way back to the ferry, I stopped to get some water. Crawling towards me on a rock was a beautiful, yet delicate beetle, decorated in orange, blue and green colors. This marching insect pushed its way forward without looking back, without any knowledge of the place he calls home. From out of the sea, rose a mountain of hot lava, still warm to this day. Yet, the seeds of nearby trees and mosses took their chance and started to grow. Through time, just like the marching beetle, organisms began to set up their homes on Mt. Ragnitoto. Now full of life, this island is the perfect balance between new and old, and shows how even in the darkest of times, beautiful things can happen.: by tomas-nocera, Views[343]
     
    As I walked down to the base of the island, where it meets the sea. I was fascinated by the contrast between the black rock and blue water. I looked down and saw a periwinkle snail clutched to the base of a rock. I took this photograph to show the movement of life to the volcano island. Between the water and black lava rock, it looks like an oil spill has just happened, trapping the snail. It goes to show that even in extreme and destructive events, life can recover.          		 Crouched in a cave, carved by the steady stream of lava, I looked through a crack on the ceiling. Above me shined the sun, illuminating the growing spuds of moss and the thin cobwebs of spiders. As the time has passed, beautiful things have come to colonize this large volcano. It is beautiful to see this steady progression of life moving into the tiniest pieces of lava.: by tomas-nocera, Views[294]
         		 Along a footpath, the grass creeps up from the hard surface of the ground. All around lies the black lava rocks, yet in all this darkness, there is color and life. Stretching like a road, the grass is like a walkway showing how even in the worst of times there is always something good.          		 Around 600 years ago, the skies turned blood red and through the boiling hot water rose a volcano off the shores of what is now Auckland, New Zealand. Rising above the sea, remnants of volcanic rock are slowly being hidden away by grasses and moss. Once an inhospitable area, Mt.
