    Barrio Camponado was created by clear-cutting lush mangrove areas and filling in the swamp water with cliff rocks and garbage.     Orangutan Kalimantan (Pongo Pygmaeus Pygmaeus) is an endemic species who live in Borneo. This species has been noted as 'endangered species' by IUCN Red List. World Wildlife Fund for Nature (WWF) estimated that there's only 2000 pygmaeus still living in West Borneo. Illegal logging, wildlife hunting and land use change are the factors that caused its extinction.Few month later after i took this picture, local people said that this pygmaeus gave birth.I believe that hope is still existing today.: by michaeleko, Views[1078]
         		 Pak Gai, an elder of Dayak Iban tribe show his traditional tattoo. Ibanese tattoo have a similar pattern with the flowers and animal in the forest. It represent the dependence between people and nature. But now, this local knowledge must facing modernity. Young people migrate to other land. They prefer to use modern tattoo. Markus worry about the riverside that sag at back of his home. He anxious if someday they must go away from their home due to the river side avalanche.     In my trip, I went to Mendalam River. That's one of many rivers in the Heart of Borneo area. The indigenous peoples depend to the river as their resources for living. When I arrived in their village, one big company is planning to do logging at upriver from this hamlet. Peoples refuse it. They have learnt from the terrible history among them. In early 2004, this area is a site of illegal logging. Then a big flood happened. Now, people are still fight to refuse the logging plan.: by michaeleko, Views[617]
