Iceland lies in the North Atlantic on the Mid-Atlantic Ridge. It is a place where ice meets fire - it is volcanic active and around 11% of the land is covered by glaciers. The volcanic ground offers hard life conditions. Most of the island is uninhabited. Iceland is the most sparsely populated country in Europe (with an average of around three inhabitants per square kilometre) and around one third of the population is living in the countries capital. Before human arrival the only mammal living on the island was the Arctic Fox.
An important part in animal life take birds. Although before human arrival to Iceland the island was extensively forested now the sight of a tree is rare. This is unfavourable for many bird species. But the long coastline offers a lot of space for breeding for many kinds of birds. The photography is taken at the Látrabjarg cliff, which at the highest point reaches 440m making it the highest cliff on Iceland.: by annadal, Views[1495]
