    I took this photo just outside a market area in Tianjin, China. With the many pressures that Chinese youth face these days such as increasing competition for a prosperous future and being the only hope in their family due to the one child policy, it is not far-fetched to imagine that this quiet moment of simple play many be one of the rarer moments in this little girls life.: by laobaixing, Views[4122]
         		 This photo really encompasses the daily life of China. With the ever present bike in the foreground and a small convenience stall operating from a window in a building in the background.          		 One of the most remarkable things I had the pleasure of observing while I was in China was the sense of community, especially in the older generations. I took this photo of a woman just finishing an exercise dance routine with the women in the background. It was a rather cold and windy day, yet with that look of contentment on her face she could have been someplace much warmer.          		 I was lucky enough to be visiting a friend in Hong Kong during the annual Dragon Boat festival. During this festival cities China wide host Dragon Boat races. Teams range from professionals to high school students and it is a exciting demonstration of community and Chinese culture.          		 Anyone who has ever visited or lived in China would be hard pressed to imagine China without cyclists weaving in and out of the traffic. The bicycle is one symbol of China's ever changing relationship with the west.     Qurban is the biggest festival in the Uyghur calendar. Each family purchases and then sacrifices their own sheep to remember when the prophet Abraham was commanded to sacrifice his son, but then God provided a substitute of a sheep at the last second. At the start of the day the city was abuzz with the festivities of the day; men on their way to the mosque, women buying supplies for the celebrations and sheep being sold on the street. However a couple hours later the atmosphere had changed completely; a sombre mood of remembrance set on community.          		 Food is especially special during the Uyghur festivals. This young girl is making Sangza; crispy, fried dough twists, which are one of the most important snacks for festivals as well as other special occasions such as weddings. Foreigners like to call this snack
         		 Food is a central part of the Uyghur culture. When Uyghurs meet with friends or family the generally share a meal, and if they don't share a meal they will at least have a snack of some sort.          		 This was one of the first sights I saw when I arrived in Urumqi, the capital city of Xinjiang. Most signs are bilingual with both Chinese characters and Arabic-based Uyghur script. The Uyghur people are a Central Asian ethnic group that live primarily in China's Northwestern province, Xinjiang. The Uyghur culture has far more similarities with other Central Asian cultures than with the Chinese culture and this has resulted in a lot of tension and some clashes over the years. : by michelledeacon, Views[193]

The urban growth is so high that old must make space for the new despite the protests. Such protests are ignored on behalf that the benefits of the mass are more important than the individual.
