The End: A Time For Reckoning

UNITED KINGDOM | Thu, 17 Jul 2008 | By all_powered_up | Views [2549] | Comments [8]

No toilet too dirty, no room too squalid, no food too weird and no insect too big...even when it's in my food.  What an amazing diversity of landscapes - mountains stretching into the clouds, castaway island beaches, crystal clear blue seas, humid overgrown ... Read more >

The End Of Nicaragua?

NICARAGUA | Thu, 10 Apr 2008 | By all_powered_up | Views [1890] | Comments [1]

"Some things change" (my plans), "and some things do not" (my lack of time).  It's a strange series of events that sees me not staying in Nicaragua any longer - as I'd envisaged doing.  Due to a mix of timings, border crossings, costs, ... Read more >

How do you spend your last few days in a place that has become like a second home?  You are aware that soon you´ll be in dorms again, sharing your personal space with strangers, that you´ll become a master toilet inspector and a connoisseur of bad smells.... Read more >

That's all for New Zealand

NEW ZEALAND | Fri, 1 Feb 2008 | By all_powered_up | Views [1388] | Comments [1]

Perhaps more than any other country, New Zealand was the one i wanted to visit.  Yet for all its beauty and dramatic landscapes I've been ready to leave here for a couple of weeks. NZ caters for the backpackers incredibly well - travel, bookings and ... Read more >

Goodbye Stewart

NEW ZEALAND | Thu, 17 Jan 2008 | By all_powered_up | Views [1028]

It's strange to be back on the road again.  Stewart island has been my 'home' for nearly 4 weeks and it's been a year since I've stopped in one place for that long.  Adjustment and fitting in become middle names when travelling for so long though. My ... Read more >

How was the serenity?

AUSTRALIA | Wed, 7 Nov 2007 | By all_powered_up | Views [938]

Time has just flown eh, with barely enough time to get a stubby from the eskie, put another prawn on the barbie or run for the now needed dunny.  Over 10 weeks have been skied, trekked, drunk, dived and toured away -and I've barley scratched the surface ... Read more >

Adios Asia

INDONESIA | Mon, 27 Aug 2007 | By all_powered_up | Views [1160] | Comments [1]

I've been nearly 8 months in Asia, and yet I've barely scratched the surface.  This tiger has left deep impressions on my mind and soul.  Dragged over many a culture shock inducing bump, I think I've gradually learnt to tame the animal (editor: OK enough!)  ... Read more >

Goodbye Malaysia

MALAYSIA | Wed, 8 Aug 2007 | By all_powered_up | Views [1879]

KFC's on every corner, palm tree plantations as far as the eye can see, being only set-up for the tour loving, money spending tourist. Or, world class diving, beautiful islands and wildlife parks that I've only dreamt about.  Like all places there are ... Read more >

Goodbye Thailand

THAILAND | Wed, 27 Jun 2007 | By all_powered_up | Views [1333] | Comments [1]

It's fair to say I don't want to leave this country.  I've spent more time in Thailand (around10 weeks) than any other on my journey so far, and there's still a lot of it I haven't seen and would like to visit. How do you summarise a country that's ... Read more >

Vientiane and the end of Laos

LAOS | Sat, 28 Apr 2007 | By all_powered_up | Views [1495] | Comments [1]

The capital of Laos and a place to bore me with a capital B.  The most 'exciting' part of my travels was getting to Vientiane.  On the way to the airport there had been a bad motorbike crash.  A young, very bloody guy, was being propped up on the side ... Read more >

Good Bye Vietnam

VIETNAM | Sat, 21 Apr 2007 | By all_powered_up | Views [4296] | Comments [1]

Wow what a country.  Another one steeped in history and conflict, war is still raging - but it's the ever growing war of communism versus capitalism.  I accept the fact that i will never get used to it; I'm always the wallet, always the one the moto ... Read more >

So it's been a month, I've seen Angkor Wat - number one on my list for SE Asia and I've learned to dive - one of the many things on my list of things to do before i die (sad i know to have a list).  I have this feeling i will never be back to Cambodia, ... Read more >

After several touch-bases of the beheaded sheep, another game with no introduction starts taking place. It's a pure fight this time, declared. Still on the horse. It's massive and powerful. The animals get squeezed between the opponents trying to unsaddle each other with bare hands. But the result is an even score: one to one and still nobody on the ground. : by raya2046, Views[178]
