CAMBODIA | Sat, 29 Nov 2014 | By dinagosse | Views [87]

Yesterday we woke, not quite as early, and got ready for a long tuk-tuk ride out of town to a couple of temple sites we were particularly interested in, north of town about 40 km. We stopped first at Pre Rup, a lesser known temple ruin that seemed of ... Read more >

Cambodia - Day 3-3

CAMBODIA | Tue, 30 Sep 2014 | By changstein | Views [66]

Pub street in Siem Reap. Literally every place is a bar, restaurant, massage parlour, or some combination of all three. Don't assume that pub street during the day is the same at night. Once the sun goes down the street transforms into a plethora ... Read more >

Cambodia - Day 3-2

CAMBODIA | Tue, 30 Sep 2014 | By changstein | Views [51]

If you get to chance to try Khmer food, I highly recommend it. Must cheaper than western food, and much more filling. This is Amok, a curry dish with meat and vegetables served in a coconut along with rice.

Cambodia - Day 3-1

CAMBODIA | Tue, 30 Sep 2014 | By changstein | Views [46]

Ankor Thom area, another temple site. Don't underestimate how large these temples are. Bring lots of water, sunscreen and food. Otherwise be prepared to have to bargain hard with the vendors to get a half decent price.

Cambodia - Day 3

CAMBODIA | Tue, 30 Sep 2014 | By changstein | Views [60]

Ankor Wat. Pictures and words do not fully explain how big these temples truly are. If you come to Asia, do not miss this experience. Also, if one vendor offers you 10 postcards for $1, and another offers you 1 postcard for $1 and you get 9 ... Read more >

Cambodia - Day 1-2

CAMBODIA | Sun, 28 Sep 2014 | By changstein | Views [32]

So after a ridiculous 6 hour traffic jam, we missed our bus to Siem Reap, and had to catch the 11pm bus in Phnom Penh. Now I know what it felt like to sleep in the bottom deck of the Titanic. We've now been travelling for 17 hours, and we're about ... Read more >

Running Amok for Fish Amok

CAMBODIA | Fri, 26 Sep 2014 | By connectlocally | Views [907]

The bowl is steaming hot. I deeply inhale the lemongrass and galangal and immediately start salivating.  And as soon as I put a spoonful in my mouth, my tastebuds "rush into a frenzy" - the original Malay meaning of the word "amok".  ... Read more >

CAMBODIA | Mon, 3 Feb 2014 | By escape | Views [120]

Today I left the western bubble that is Phnom Penh for the not-so-glamorous country town I will be calling home for the next year. I'm now in Kampong Chhnang, about 90km north of Phnom Penh. Mozzies are abundant and I've encountered my first squat ... Read more >

Week 2 - Phnom Penh

CAMBODIA | Fri, 31 Jan 2014 | By escape | Views [77]

Being a volunteer in international development, I had expected life to be a little hard. Cambodia after all is a “third world” country. I'm sure it is for many of the locals here, including the 1/3 who live below the poverty line, however, ... Read more >
