The trappings of one's mind

Mon, 20 Oct 2008 | By shix | Views [976]

Can be a frightening thing. I’m referring to one’s socio-economic and cultural background. Warning: reflective post ahead. In the past 2 weeks I’ve been here, I’ve met and spoken to several foreigners who have made S’ville their (temporary) home.... Read more >

As the centre is closed on Mondays, fellow volunteer Megan and I decided to take a day trip to one of the nearby islands – Bamboo Island. This crescent-shaped island is an hour’s boat trip away from Sihanoukville, and boy was it a world of difference ... Read more >

Angkor Wat???

Tue, 14 Oct 2008 | By houdyman | Views [787]

After making it to a guesthouse on our "free" tuk-tuk ride I settled into a room with a Canadian woman I met named Brooke. We split the costs which saved us each four dollars. May not seem like much but that can be a nights lodging at a guesthouse.... Read more >

Sat, 11 Oct 2008 | By houdyman | Views [636]

I arrived after a blissfully short flight from Vientianne at Phnom Pehn airport and quickly walked outside to catch a moto into town. I bargained hard and got one for $1. Little did I know that the dollar is king in Cambodian so much so that all ATMs ... Read more >

Fri, 10 Oct 2008 | By katandstevie | Views [748] | Comments [3]

Two choices lay open to us as to how we would enter Cambodia, one was to take a bus which would take us to Phnom Penh directly, the other was to take the boat up the Meokong river, which seemed like a far cooler way to do the crossing! Our boat ride ... Read more >

Reflection on Laos and Cambodia

Thu, 9 Oct 2008 | By lockers | Views [398]

7th October All plans to have a lie-in were in vain as the morning street noise started to crescend into quite a concert of sounds outside our bedroom window at about 7.30am. Nevertheless, it didn't spoil my plan to do very little with the day. The ... Read more >

October 5th-6th On the bus from Phnom Penh to Siem Reap, Robbie and I diagnosed his recent illness, deciding he must have been suffering from PTT: Pre- Temple Tension. It is no wonder when we knew that we had gone against all advice from guidebooks ... Read more >

Natural Power
There is nothing more powerful then lightning and this concept is the reason behind me storm chasing all over Victoria. I have seen lightning strike only meters from where I’m standing and for some reason makes me feel indestructible in some ways. I find it not as an adrenalin rush but more of a source to my individual need to absorb energy the world offers to keep me on my toes. This image shows how to capture a moment in time that projected so much power with such little subject: by frozen79, Views[238]
