         		 This is a traditional Aboriginal cave painting at Injalak Hill, 5kms west of Gunbalanya in Arnhem Land, NT. Painted with white and red ochre this painting is believed to be over 10,000 years old. Hand stencils are very common in Aboriginal rock painting, this particular one is considered very rare due to the detail added into what would normally be negative space.: by arnhemland, Views[1388]

         		 Aboriginal elder Garry Djorlom learnt how to hunt and gather food provided by the land from his father, Dudley Djorlom and his uncles. Walking through the scrub with Garry he would point out and name different trees in his traditional language (Kunwinjku). Occasionally he would stop to pick some fruit “I’m going to take these back to my grand kids” he would say, with an earnest smile.: by arnhemland, Views[2397]
         		 Once surrounded by ancient seas, the iconic Arnhem Land escarpment or “stone country” is a great example of the relationship between Aboriginal people and the land. During the wet season this sandstone wall is transformed into a plentiful oasis, brimming with fish and birds to hunt.          		 Garry Djorlom is an Aboriginal elder from Oenpelli, Western Arnhem Land, Northern Territory, Australia. He’s a softly spoken character with a warm, friendly nature. Like many Aboriginal elders, he’s also a storyteller. “If you have a story, don’t put it in your pocket and leave it there, take it out and share it with your family”.     One the way back to Wilpena Pound one evening the moon was going down. The tree in the dip of the perimeter of the pound stood out. It is by the light of the silvery moon. It was so serene and the night sky was amazing with very bright stars. I think it was nature showing a softer side of the Flinders Ranges but the tree by itself, also emphasised the isolation of the area.          		 This tree along the creek bed captured me from the moment I saw it. It looks like the trunk of a person (no arms of course!). It is a weathered trunk; something that has stood the test of time and seemingly will continue to do so. Is this nature's construction and way of bringing pseudo human life into the area?          		 This photo of a tree in the river bed draws me in. The tree has its arms up. Is it welcoming me or keeping me away and protecting the trees further down the creek bed. Its sturdiness and grandeur cannot be ignored. Through floods and the carving of its trunk by gushing water, and no doubt fires and anything else nature can throw at it, it still stands tall and proud.     Sunrise at Razor Back lookout. The name sounds harsh, but the beauty of the range which cannot be understated, softens it. The meandering road leading to the distant mountain range makes you feel connected to it. The vast landscape, however, makes you realise how isolated the area can be. It's an interesting juxtaposition of feelings when you're standing there, at dawn, admiring the beauty, but feeling very small and isolated. A kangaroo jumped across the road when we were there. The modest suburban town has always been of lower socio-economic value and hasn’t been able to shake its abrasive reputation.          		 After a long walk out, on the road to 1770, I took a turn and headed towards a quiet beach. I walked back quietly along the ever eroding beach, with trees uprooted all the way along, from the 3 bad storms lasting 4-10 days each, in just 5 - 6 weeks. What a difference a day or 2 makes!     On my first night in Agnes Waters, I took a walk around in pitch black night, on the semi slippery path, in the hostel yard. On the way back to the light, I came across my first, in pitch black night, with my very first very large, ugly, poisonous, pesty Cane Toad.
