    After 5 days on the boat we arrived at our destination, Iquitos. Iquitos is the largest city in the world with no land connection. We loved the atmosphere of this rollicking jungle town. : by tk-tempany, Views[413]
         		 Just hanging out of the boat. There were at least 50 young children on the boat. Their patience, maturity, and self reliance was incredible. These boys amused themselves for 5 days by tying string to plastic bottles and watching the bottles skip across the water.          		 Laurita became quite attached to us over the trip. So much so that her Mum offered us to take her home with us for a better life. We told her Australia is over-rated.: by tk-tempany, Views[562]

    Whenever we stopped at a village, hoards of locals would board the boat selling a very diverse range of goods. From fried fish, to avacados, to green parrots (As shown in this picture). The parrots were perfectly tame and cost 1 Sol (30 cents).: by tk-tempany, Views[425]
         		 At some of the villages we stopped long enough for us to get off the boat and walk around. It was amazing to visit these isolated villages that are only accessable by boat.: by tk-tempany, Views[463]
         		 One of the many villages we stopped at along the way to pick up cargo. In this case, it was a crate of fish. Among this crate of fish, the boat was carrying an enormous amount of cargo including a tractor, bananas, and Coca-Cola. During the night the Captain would regularly fire bullets from his shotgun into the water. This was to scare off any Amazon pirates from hijacking the boat.          		 We tried to hold on for the 5 days, but on day 2 our bowls overcame our will. There were 4 toilets among the 200 passengers. These cubicles also doubled as showers, with brown Amazon water gushing from the showerhead positioned over the bowl. We both perfected the art of the simultaneous shizen and shower, and found the toilet/shower combo to be quite a practical concept.: by tk-tempany, Views[419]

         		 Lunch on Day 3 (The same as Breakfast, Lunch, and Dinner on days 1-5). The meals consisted of brown river water, rice/noodles, twigs, chicken necks, and other foreign objects extracted from the river. Que Rico. : by tk-tempany, Views[404]
         		 The kitchen on Henry 2. We were served 3 meals a day for the 5 days. When a meal was ready a bell was rung, prompting everyone to grab their BYO bowls and form a line from the kitchen. : by tk-tempany, Views[368]
         		 After the first day some people disembarked and we took their more favourable positions away from the engine and the toilets. Personal space was a foreign concept on this boat, and we loved it. The levels of tolerance and patience that we witnessed were life changing for us. Not a single complaint was made about the difficult conditions. An incredible community spirit existed on the boat. We were all strangers on day 1, but by day 5, we had all shared conversation, laughs, food, blankets, hammocks, and had become like family. An incredible experience.: by tk-tempany, Views[378]
         		 200 Peruvians and 2 Aussies crammed into the passenger deck for the five day journey. We arrived at the port in Pucallpa 12 hours prior to departure. When we boarded, the only position available for our BYO Hammock was right next to the engine and the toilets. The combination of unbearable heat and fumes from the engine, small rivers of stinking urine flowing underneath us from the overflowing toilets, and people constantly wiping their toilet hands on our hammocks defines who we are today. : by tk-tempany, Views[517]
     
    One of the top 10 experiences of the trip was our time aboard the cargo boat, Henry 2. We are not sure what happened to Henry 1, but Henry 2 faithfully took us 1500 kms along the Amazon river over 5 incredible days.: by tk-tempany, Views[383]
         		 El Misti, the enormous active volcano towering over Arequipa.Several Inca ice mummies were recently found perfectly preserved at the top (5800m above sea level). Young girls were sacrificed to appease the mountain gods. : by tk-tempany, Views[924]

         		 We caught this boat to Isla del Sol, another island of Lake Titicaca. It took us 1 hour to get to the island. Tim thought he would help the 78 year old man with the paddling.
