         		 After telling the workers to act natural, I was lucky to see a Father and son hugging on the far right side who work together. The Father was holding his old lunch pale, and at the same moment the man in the red T-Shirt looking up and smiled at me when everyone alts was looking straight.          		 This position showed how the workers walked on and off the beam between takes, and how one man always stayed behind to clip off the safety harness of the rest before the next group. It gives the viewer more depth to take in the surrounding support structure.     Here is a great example of all the workers becoming kids again. The plan was to get all the workers to look up at me, on the unfinished top floor which I was laying down on. Instead they all broke out with smiles and laughter. This view served a second purpose as well, giving a sense of depth while zoomed out of the structure. Now you can see how its nearly a strait drop, at the same time the natural ease they have gives a nice balance.: by dustin, Views[339]
         		 This was the natural photo composition I was looking for, every one's position was different and view points when looking around. This was the perfect focal point to draw you in, my goal was to capture the worker in the yellow overalls in the center of the beam holding his work bag, while kneeling down gripping his feet on the beam.          		 He was the jokester of all the workers that day, and loved trying different poses. these are moments when their personality just pored out. You could never fake this with someone going out to do it for real, with real danger.          		 Angela believes there’s no future without traditions. Only by honouring the teachings of their ancestors, the Nation will be able to ensure the wellbeing of their youngest ones. “Every time my paddle touches the water and goes down in for each stroke, it’s like connecting to the past,” she says. “When I bring it back out of the water and reach forward, to me it’s like a prayer.          		 During the Whey-ah-Wichen Canoe Festival, kids 10 or younger have the opportunity to compete against each other to earn cash prices. Getting them involved early in the races serves a big purpose: to ensure that they stay away from drugs and alcohol, as addiction is a serious problem Canadian First Nations face. “Substance abuse is an issue in our community and one way to combat that is to have the kids involved in other healthy activities and cultural teaching in a way that they can be involved in the culture,” Angela explains. “It’s gaining personal identity and believing in themselves enough so they’re able to say no.”: by carlostello, Views[442]
     
    One of the key elements in the Nation’s plan to bring canoe racing back is the Whey-ah-Wichen Canoe Festival, a two-day competition in which Aboriginal people from all along the West Coast of North America compete in canoe races. The festival is held in Tsleil-Waututh land. “I think [the festival] is really important because we’re reviving something that this community did years ago in hosting other communities to come here and to compete in healthy traveling and healthy racing together,” explains Angela George, the woman leading the efforts to reestablish canoe racing.: by carlostello, Views[422]
         		 By reviving canoe racing, the Tsleil-Waututh people hope to bring the Nation together. And more importantly, to engage their youth in their traditions. This year, kids as young as seven were introduced to the art of paddling by some of the Nation’s best racers.          		 Through hundreds of years of colonialism and exploitation, Aboriginal people —or as they’re called in Canada, First Nations— have experienced the steady loss of their traditions and culture. One of those traditions is war canoe racing. Paddling competitions were vital for Aboriginal people after British settlement because they allowed them to circumvent the prohibition to gather in large groups. In the past few decades, though, canoe racing has faded due to Aboriginal migration to cities. Regardless, there are those who still fight for the survival of traditions.
