    These mountains were formed during a volcanic eruption about 10 000 years ago. The ryolite stone taints the mountains red, and the minerals emerging from the hot-springs colored the ground yellow,red and green. The diverse geology of the mountains drove me into a spectacular flow of colours and a dramatic surnatural fairy landscape, where you can feel Earth alive. With these photographs, i wanted to capture my ambiguous feeling this landscape turn me into. Indeed, even if it is an unliveable place, desertic and far from civilization, life is here latent and organic. Keeping in my mind the Tales and Saga of the past in this land of Spirits and Outlaws, i'd like my photographs to offer a meditative contemplation, and build the backgrounds of an imaginary scene.: by guillaumefandel, Views[838]
         		 This area of the Highlands is one of the best unspoiled gems, it's one of the most active geothermal areas in Iceland, where you can see splashing mud puddles, vents through which the earth breath angrily, hot springs, rivulets, fog, steams..          		 The mountain used to have a small glacier, now melted away. This glacier was very popular for summer skiing. In year 2000, all the ski lifts were disassambled due to climate change and the glaciers' retreat. It is pretty common to see, and even cross, snowdrifts in this area; because of rude and tough weather condition in center of Iceland, snowing during august may always happen.: by guillaumefandel, Views[680]
         		 These 4 pictures have been taken in Kerlingarfjöll which is a mountain range in the middle of the Icelandic Highlands, reach by Road 35 (S-W of the Hofsjökull glacier) only 3 or 4 month per year. ''Fjöll' means mountains and 'Kerling' means old lady ( in a sense of 'witch'). The name of the area, inspired by ancient folk tales, come from a 25m high volcanic tuff stone pillar. It is said that an old troll lady was caught out by the sunrise and therefore turned to stone. The area was hardly ever visited before the past century both because it was very remote, but also because it was thought to be the homeland of trolls and the only people that would venture there were thieves and outlaws.: by guillaumefandel, Views[708]

    With about 13 metres in length, this sperm whale was a comparatively small specimen. Despite the fact that sperm whales are rather abundant and although their range covers almost all oceans, their anatomy and behavior still hold quite a few secrets.          		 The carcass of a male sperm whale that washed ashore at Snaefellsnes Peninsula in spring 2012. These whales can grow up to 20 metres in length and weigh over 55 tons. Their species is the largest living toothed animal and the deepest diving mammal on earth. The white scars on many sperm whales' heads are believed to come from fights with giant squids that are one of their primary preys.          		 In April 2012 the rugged shoreline of Snaefellsnes National Park became the scene for another extraordinary event. As if the volcano had spit out one of Jules Verne's fictitious creatures, the carcass of one of the most fascinating and mysterious ocean animals of our times had beached right at the bottom of the snow-covered, incandescent peak of Snaefellsjökull.     In Vatnajokull National Park, Iceland, one can go many kilometers without seeing a single soul. A sign on the side of the road tells the story of a massive flood that occurred from a volcanic eruption underneath a glacier which sent water pouring through the valley. This is all that remains of a bridge that once functioned many kilometers upland from where its pieces are now strewn in desolate, isolation.          		 Reaching the biggest glacier in Europe is at first, a shock. To be face to face with such a monstrous and beautiful creature. You can almost feel it living and breathing on you. It feels like the only living creature for miles.          		 The strange, vast, lonely, emptiness of Iceland is sometimes interrupted by a strange sign of human life, resulting in a surreal image of nature subtly stamped by the footprint of mankind.The precariously placed single glove on top of this warning meant to discourage unattended glacier climbing is both humorous and creepy.
