         		 A wood fire in Jatoli. The jat (metal tripod) is for a pressure cooker, pot or kettle to sit on during the cooking phase. The smoke in an unventilated environment creates atrociously high smoke levels that lead to high rates of respiratory disease. : by bonnie, Views[431]
         		 Jatoli is a small village (population approx 123 people) situated at an altitude of 2400m in the Kumaon Himalaya. The last village if one is trekking to Sunderdhunga. Also the site of peAk's fuel efficient stove project (chulhas). This is a snapshot of a section of the village.: by bonnie, Views[418]

         		 This boy is eleven and works full time. On Sunday he is found washing his clothes. He was so excited about the books and was also keen to learn written Hindi. At informal classes he was doing just that and was very proud of himself!: by bonnie, Views[566]
         		 Ritang currently has several families of Nepali workers working on a hydro project (that is a whole other story). The children are frequently 'outside' of the formal education system. We had left over resources (and old library toys) that we gave to the kids including Chandani (pictured here).
