I could no longer presume that all the, sometimes cruel, traditions were merely for the pleasure of killing bulls or baby pigs or deer. I had witnessed equal attention being paid to the care of those same animals as well as to tending to their gardens, the unearthing of onions and the picking of tomatoes.
