Niort, We Disliked You Once but Now We Love You. Part 1

FRANCE | Thu, 3 Oct 2013 | By tara_and_paul_go_travelling | Views [492]

It is true at the beginning of our time in Niort we did not speak glowingly of it.  For one it was a long walk from the train station to our B and B and it was warm.  That was not a great start and couple this with the fact that we were walking ... Read more >

Kia Ora New Zealand!

NEW ZEALAND | Mon, 10 Jun 2013 | By butterfly-freed | Views [1007]

Kia Ora New Zealand. I have packed so much into the 24 days I have been here, seen so much and yet I leave with so much left unseen. It is certainly a land to be explored and I have thoroughly enjoyed discovering some of the wonders it holds. With ... Read more >

Northward Bound

NEW ZEALAND | Thu, 6 Jun 2013 | By butterfly-freed | Views [829]

All ferry crossings the following day were cancelled! Again I was lucky although it was far from a smooth trip. Arriving in Wellington in the dark, I find that navigation here is no easy task. I know that the hostel is about 20 minutes away and that ... Read more >

New Zealand - A Land of Two Halves

NEW ZEALAND | Sun, 2 Jun 2013 | By butterfly-freed | Views [967]

I examine my expectations of New Zealand and find that I had envisaged seeing a few pretty sights and that just over 3 weeks would probably be more than sufficient time to do so. I couldn’t have been more wrong and I am ashamed by the almost flippant ... Read more >

NEW ZEALAND | Tue, 21 May 2013 | By butterfly-freed | Views [684]

It’s all about the view! I discover that I‘m a scenic type traveller. I look back and realise that whenever I arrive somewhere, invariably the first thing I do is look at the view. I love landscapes, natural or even man-made and if I were ... Read more >

Fig 4. Concrete Jungle - Parque de las Iguanas, coexistence.
A small park in the busting city of Guayaquil is home to hundreds of breeding South American Green Iguanas. An explanation from a local depicts that this “parque de las iguanas” previously known as “el parque seminario” was donated by a wealthy individual a hundred years ago or so, on the one condition that the Iguanas were to be allowed to roam free amongst it. These rather tolerant vegetarian reptiles can be found in their juvenile stages climbing amongst the parks treetops, while much larger and more dominant iguanas are seen wherever they choose to rest, eat flowers & leaves and absorb the ground-stones evening warmth.: by aartfielder, Views[286]
