When the forests disappear erosion increases … such as in the steep mountains of Ha Giang (Vietnam). Here, the fertile soil is washed away. Only stones and rocks remain ... and the people of the Lô Lô ethnic minority. Despite the harsh conditions they attempt to survive. They plow the stony soil to grow some corn and other grains. Here it is very hard to survive, … without the protection of the forests life is becoming increasingly difficult.
