Canal-du-Midi - was originally built between 1667-1681. Despite being one of the oldest canals in Europe it is still in use, although the users nowadays are made up of tourists rather than transport. In 1996 it was named a UNESCO World Heritage Site. With the decline in industry and transport, towns and villages along the canal have suffered and despite some well maintained tourist hotspots, many villages are now all but deserted. : by chiacchierare, Views[469]
