Thousands troop into Kanha every year, mostly for a fleeting glimpse of the elusive tiger, ignoring much else including the forest’s rich birdlife. This Spotted Owlet, for instance, occupies a Banyan tree once inhabited by a Barn Owl and shares it with up to five other Owlets. Often, in the clamor for tiger spotting, few pay attention to smaller, ignored species in vital need for protection.
