Upon freezing over, there is something to be said about the frozen lakes of the Rockies.  Surface Hoar Feathers are one of nature’s miracles, typically forming when a surface warms up during the day and is then cooled again overnight.  The night air-cools the surface of the snow so that water can evaporate from inside and recrystalize on the surface.  By morning the ice is covered with a layer of faceted ice crystals creating these beautiful and unique structures.
