I must admit seeing bones used in such a fashion did feel a little eery.  These are the remains of real people.  I found myself thinking, who were they, what did they do, what would they have thought about having their skulls and bones used to decorate the inside of a chapel.

Is this beautiful or horrible is not for me to say, but each of the "bones chapels" that I visited definitely had an effect on me and made me ponder my own mortality. NOTE: I would have liked to have included a photo from the Capuchin Crypt in Rome, but photography within this site is strictly prohibited. This photo is from Cappela dos Ossos in Evora, Portugal where photography was allowed.
