With a bustling modern city, emerging beach destinations and more temples than tourists, Myanmar's rich and thrilling culture - of dozens of languages and peoples - is naturally a drawcard. But going to Myanmar is more complicated than just buying a ticket.
Since 1988, Myanmar (formerly Burma) has been under the military rule of the State Peace and Development Council (SPDC) - formerly known as Slorc - an abominable military junta. Prospective travellers should monitor events here and weigh up the arguments in support of, and in opposition to, travel.

We started early so we could fit in a whole day trip on the lake, sharing a boat with some Swedish friends from our guest house. The longboat took us down

Day 17 - Kalaw
Having seen all that we wanted to see but by no means all the sites in Bagan, we decided that with our new found passion for early mornings we would catch the 3.30am bus to Kalaw. Ok, it was the only bus and we had no other options ... Read more >

Dostanie się w Hsipaw do Bagan wymaga przesiadki w Mandalay. Tam z
Hsipaw dojechać można pociągiem lub autobusem. Ten pierwszy potrzebuje
na przejechanie trasy 13 godzin, drugi – 7. Wybór wydaje się prosty,
ale w rzeczywistości nic nie jest proste.... Read more >

The road to Mandalay is lined with bamboo huts, children bathing and playing in ponds, ox carts and loose cattle meandering down the road, men playing Chinlon (a version of keepy uppy with a cane rattan ball), all very idyllic. Then we hit a junction.... Read more >

Z Pyin U Lwin do Hsipaw postanowiliśmy pojechać pociągiem. Wyłącznie
dla sportu, bo autobusem dojechalibyśmy w 4godziny, a pociągowi
przejechanie tej samej trasy zabrało godzin aż 7. Pociąg – wbrew wielu
relacjom z podróży po Birmie jakie wcześniej ... Read more >

Z Carlą i Maximo spotkaliśmy się z
samego rana. Dołączyła do nas jeszcze francuzka mieszkająca w

Po trzech dniach relaksu w
sielskiej-wiejskiej scenerii jeziora Inle ruszyliśmy do Mandalay. Jeśli
droga z Yangon nad jezioro była drogą przez mękę, to na opis drogi z
jeziora do Mandalay trudno znaleźć słowa. Podróż nie była jakoś bardzo
długa (9 ... Read more >

Read more >
