Iceland The country of Iceland is a beautiful place and with the weather staying around 55 degrees the whole time,  we felt at home like Boone. Upon arriving, we were a little overwhelmed because the Icelandic language is absurdly difficult to ... Read more >

I took Icelandair from Edmonton to London so that I could take advantage of their free layover program. I stopped in Iceland for 5 days on my return flight. My first impression of Iceland, while on the bus from the airport in Keflavik ... Read more >

Welcome back! I'm sipping a Pilsner in a famous establishment in Prague right now called Mlejnice about to indulge in a beer goulash with cranberries, followed up with a beef stew soaked in plum sauce. So exciting! It's also costing me about $11 USD, ... Read more >

F225 Búrfell to Landmannalaugar

Thu, 28 May 2015 | By laurablair | Views [590] | Scholarship Entry

Reaching for my toothbrush in the darkness of an October morning, my phone threw itself out of my pocket and into a watery toilet grave. Its untimely death - and miraculous resurrection in the stuffy cabin of an Airbus over the North Atlantic - was indicative ... Read more >

The Song

Wed, 27 May 2015 | By caridadcb | Views [234] | Scholarship Entry

Reykjavik has been home for only a week, but I suspect I’ve already lost my ability to differentiate between the real and the imagined. On the way to Thingvellir, I’ve passed frozen waterfalls, eerily paralyzed in a perpetual state of non-motion. They’re ... Read more >

Simple life - Hrisey.

Wed, 27 May 2015 | By zuzannakwiat | Views [132] | Scholarship Entry

I believed in the green light; even though they have been trying to convince me that there was a rather slight chance to see the northern lights during summer I had never stop believing. I watched the nights passing by; the white and sleepless in June ... Read more >

Not all Northern Lights and puffin

Wed, 27 May 2015 | By brontewinn | Views [172] | Scholarship Entry

When I told my best friend I was going to Iceland, she laughed. 'Iceland? In the middle of January? You're insane.' I cringed. I had forgotten about the whole minus 20 degrees Celsius thing, and had already booked the ticket. But Iceland turned out the ... Read more >

Finding the Light

Wed, 27 May 2015 | By porcelaineleanor | Views [117] | Scholarship Entry

In the words of Charles Dickens, it was the best of times, and it was the worst of times. After sitting on a bus of (mostly) drunken tourists for four hours, with lengthy stops in the wilderness spent trudging around in the snow hopefully looking up at ... Read more >

Grímsey

Wed, 27 May 2015 | By daotalay | Views [172] | Scholarship Entry

The ferry to Grímsey runs three times a week: out in the mornings, back in the afternoons, a three-hour crossing of the rough open Atlantic from Iceland’s jagged northern coast to this tiny green gem of an island perched precisely on the Arctic Circle.... Read more >

The Skeleton Mountain

Wed, 27 May 2015 | By dannee | Views [171] | Scholarship Entry

We had been watching it on the horizon for a while, and we still weren't sure what it was. Driving through this deserted Icelandic plain, littered with basaltic lava pillars, rubble and moss, the object had not grown steadily from the horizon. Instead, ... Read more >

The Force of Nature

Wed, 27 May 2015 | By brummietraveller | Views [150] | Scholarship Entry

The most fascinating place I’ve been to in my relatively short life is without a doubt the country of Iceland. There is an incredible amount of places to see and it’s a country I wish to visit again soon. The place that fascinated me most was Eyjafjallajökull.... Read more >

I had walked the streets of Reykjavik for three days before I had found it one evening while desperate for shelter from the cold winds whistling up from the grey sea. It was on the quay, directly in front the great fishing barges that haul in the catch ... Read more >

We must have seen and heard about horse race, dog race, even elephant race!. But it was quite surprising to see camels race! I always thought camels were very patient and usually sluggish. But in the last day of the desert festival at Jaisalmer, the camel race saw a huge crowd, with tourists and villagers from nearby villages, in equal numbers. The camel race was interesting to watch. So interesting that the race is an experience in itself!: by maheshramesh, Views[519]
