         		 The pier at St. Kilda, looking back to shore. The man-made earth jetty was built for the 1956 Summer Olympics to create a safe harbour on the left for sail boats in the sailing events. The St. Kilda Pier is famous for the Pavilion, basically just a small kiosk with enough room for a little cafe. It was first built in 1904, and just as they were getting ready for the 100th anniversary, it burned down thanks to arsonists in 2003.          		 Here's the Etihad Stadium, one of the two big stadiums in Melbourne. The 9 AFL teams based in Melbourne split the two stadiums as home grounds: 5 at Etihad and 4 at the amazing MCG. Etihad holds around 55,000 people and was about ¾ full on this day, the Roos' home opener. The roof slides across as well on rainy days. After about 120 minutes of running around the oval, this match ended with a 143-56 thumping of North Melbourne by Collingwood, the defending champs.: by flyted, Views[1285]
         		 Off to my first AFL game (Aussie Rules), Collingwood Magpies vs. North Melbourne Kangaroos. The Roos were the home team, and paraded out their new mascot, “Roo,” or something dumb like that, who proceeded to display some bad-ass hip hop dance moves with his white boys alongside.: by flyted, Views[1174]

         		 Parliament House, Victoria, home of the government of Victoria, but from 1901 to 1927 it was the Federal Parliament of Australia, before the Old Parliament House was opened in Canberra. The building was built though in 1855, so after meeting there for 46 years, the Victoria Parliament had to vacate to the nearby Royal Exhibition Building, still some pretty nice digs though.: by flyted, Views[1386]

         		 Originally the State Theatre, built in 1929, in a wild Moorish style including minarets. It was the largest theatre in Australia when built, but converted into a cinema and renamed the Forum in 1963.          		 Locals are quite divided apparently on the modernist look of Federation Square (called the “deconstructivist” style), but it has certainly quickly become Melbourne's great meeting place. Hard to believe just a few years ago nothing like this existed in the city. The complex comprises live theatres, the Australian national cinema, a radio station, and the National Gallery of Victoria, amongst many cafes and restaurants.          		 Striking architecture in Federation Square, across the street from Flinders St. Station. Fed Square was only built in 2002, before that it was an open train yard in the heart of the city.
