    The front entrance to the massive State Library of Victoria, built in 1913, with the octagonal dome over the reading room one of the largest of its kind in the world at the time.: by flyted, Views[510]
         		 Parliament House, Victoria, home of the government of Victoria, but from 1901 to 1927 it was the Federal Parliament of Australia, before the Old Parliament House was opened in Canberra. The building was built though in 1855, so after meeting there for 46 years, the Victoria Parliament had to vacate to the nearby Royal Exhibition Building, still some pretty nice digs though.: by flyted, Views[1452]
         		 This is the “Atrium” in Federation Square, 5 stories high, with the glass pieces designed to mimic the architecture of the buildings. You can see the Forum being reflected.: by flyted, Views[503]
         		 Originally the State Theatre, built in 1929, in a wild Moorish style including minarets. It was the largest theatre in Australia when built, but converted into a cinema and renamed the Forum in 1963.          		 Locals are quite divided apparently on the modernist look of Federation Square (called the “deconstructivist” style), but it has certainly quickly become Melbourne's great meeting place. Hard to believe just a few years ago nothing like this existed in the city. The complex comprises live theatres, the Australian national cinema, a radio station, and the National Gallery of Victoria, amongst many cafes and restaurants.          		 Striking architecture in Federation Square, across the street from Flinders St. Station. Fed Square was only built in 2002, before that it was an open train yard in the heart of the city.          		 The firepits were a shared affair at Lake Catani campground. We met a family of 5 from NZ out for a week's rockclimbing and a group of conservation students on a field trip.          		 Fantastic 1 hour loop walk out of Lake Catani campground takes you through this narrow rock crack, complete with a few small holds and ladders. Excellent fun and still easy enough to get the 5 yr old to do it: by crustyadventures, Views[912]
