         		 Next after the temple of gold. Just outside Cuzco. Saqsaywaman. Sounds like sexy woman. Guess what, that's what it means too in Quechua!! No, just joking. Beautiful Inca stone walls. This style is megalithic polygonal. They sanded the stones so they would fit together perfectly like a jigsaw puzzle! Amazing feat of architecture. Seriously, you can't fit a blade of grass between them they're so flush. No mortar. They've stood over 500 years despite frequent earthquakes. Stones were carried from 20km away. Other similar examples of megalithic stones are Stonehenge. : by finally, Views[379]
         		 Love the sign! So true, Inca walls are everywhere in Cusco. In Cusco here, first excursion to tour Inca ruins. This is the temple of gold. But guess what, no more gold. Plus it's a church now. Hmm. Those Spanish! They tore down most of the Inca buildings. But left Inca walls as the base of many buildings, as here. Plus those Inca stones were so damn good they reused them to build the churches. Basically every time you see a church in Cusco, you know it replaces a very important Inca religious/government building.: by finally, Views[299]

         		 Right next to the market, Pisac ruins. Well not so right next. About a 2 hour hike up a mountain! But worth it. Reminiscent of Machi Picchu. Why do they always build these Inca cities on the top of a mountain?! Those Inca architects were quite demanding.     You really get a close-up look at 'farm-to-table' food in Peru! We'll spare you the photos of the butchering though - that's done in quite openly in all markets. They find a use for all the bits and pieces here, nothing goes to waste. Surprisingly we're still not vegetarians! :-) The chickens are across the street from our hostel, live ones arrive every morning ... you get the picture. : by finally, Views[470]

         		 Laguna Wilcacocha. Again. As seen in the previous Google photo, if you're lucky you can see the entire Cordillera Blanca! Second largest mountain range in the world after the Himalayas. Dozens of peaks at 6000m (18,000ft) and higher. Yep, even near the equator at that altitude they get snow! : by finally, Views[270]

         		 Today, May 7th, we are in Huaraz (3052m-10013ft), still in the Cordillera Blanca. Today we're doing nothing. Seriously, we're out of the breath walking up the stairs. We really need to adapt to the altitude. We have headaches from the altitude, we're out of breath walking down the street, and our backs hurt from the mattress. Are we complaining? Yes!          		 Very typical, Peruvians know how to maximize space in buses and taxis! I think the record so far is 5-6 people in one row. Here they squish 2 people somehow into the front passenger seat. Btw, the Andean Quechua people of the Cordillera Blanca wear big hats and colorful clothes. : by finally, Views[291]

    Too bad the clouds were hiding the peaks of the mountains because we were supposed to see the Paramount mountain, the one you see when you watch a Paramount movie. : by finally, Views[263]

         		 We hiked around the Laguna Paron (4155 m - 13632 ft). We took transportation from Caraz at 2000 m to la Laguna Paron at 4000 m. We weren't acclimatized, we shouldn't have done it. We had and still have headaches and feel so tired. :-(: by finally, Views[290]
         		 Same as home! Evian water bottle! :-) Don't forget though that Cordillera Blanca is even higher than the Alps, elevation of the highest mountain here is 6768 m- 22205 ft. : by finally, Views[273]
         		 We stayed in Caraz, a small town in the Cordillera Blanca. Elevation 2256 m - 7402 ft. It's the beginning of the altitude sickness, we didn't plan enough time to acclimatize. :-( that's why we are drinking coca leaves tea everyday and several times per day but it didn't seem to go away. : by finally, Views[271]
