         		 This... this was one of the more beautiful moments in my life. When the moon's full in Cape Town, a lot of people like to hike Lion's Head and watch the sun set over the Atlantic, and the full moon rise opposite. I decided to hike Devil's Peak, which is 4 times as long, and I was the only one up there! A mountaintop all to myself. I was up there for hours and hours, watching the clouds roll over me, and when the sun was setting the clouds around me were glowing orange, as if I were alive in a fire. I was imagining all of the people in the city below me rushing aimlessly from point A to point B, wondering why so many can't enjoy true beauty.     A view of Sea Point peeks out from between the saddle of Lion's Head and Signal Hill, nestled between shore and mountain. Table Mountain is a sacred place, mythically, to the nomadic hunter gatherers that lived in this region. Known as the
         		 Carlos is a documentary filmmaker and surfer. The ocean seems to play a role in everyone's consciousness in Cape Town - the nature of water imbues this city with an odd ebb and flow. The nature of water is in many ways a contradiction - calm or violent, sweet or salty, fresh or freezing - and yet such a thin line exists between these contradictions.: by loverock, Views[612]
         		 This bespectacled man is a regular in Salt River, a semi-residential area of bad repute that borders the industrial hub of Cape Town. I met him outside Fargo's trading - an outlet store frequented by Cape Town's muslim community for their huge range of spices and exotic food items.          		 Naomi is an anthropology student, soon to leave Cape Town to pursue a scholarship in Kentucky. She was born in Swaziland, a small nation that borders South Africa - surprising to many since her forbears are Ashkenazi jews from Latvia, who settled in Swaziland shortly after World War II. She is seen here in Kalk Bay, named after the limestone (and chalk) that was quarried in this region. It's a small fisherman's village that is slowly being gentrified by the influx of holidaymakers, but still retains it's salty charm.: by loverock, Views[613]
         		 The promenade in Sea Point is one of my favorite places to walk alone. People of all kinds jog, exercise, walk their dogs or idle their cars in parking lots next to the ocean to watch the sunset. Right now, the platform from which this photo was taken is being excavated to rebuild the sea wall - construction crews uncovered hundreds of old glass bottles and ceramics from what used to be an old rubbish tip.: by loverock, Views[767]

    The Lion dance is done by two dancers per lion. They move on the rhythm of drums and gongs which creates a spectacular show. The head of the lion is made out of paper mâché and the twinkle and movement of the lion’s eyelids as well as the movement of the head and mouth are supposed to enhance the lion’s vitality and longevity, while the tail of the lion sweeps away bad fortune from last year.: by laetitia, Views[712]

         		 Outside the hall the celebration of the Year of the Dragon began with the thundering sound of hundreds of crackers being set alight. The whole courtyard was covered with a white blanket of smoke. This marked the start of the Dragon and Lion Dance, a traditional dance to celebrate the year of the dragon.          		 The Abbot of Nan Hua Temple, Venerable Hui-Fang, shared the New Year's message of Venerable Master Hsing Yun with eight hundred people. The Grand Master spoke wise words of “Heavenly Blessing and Protection.
         		 South Africa is a land with a diverse cultures. To celebrate the Chinese New Year is yet another extraordinary event to experience the Chinese culture.
