    The woman seated in the middle is Mama Doris who runs the crèche. Her English isn't very good and neither is my Zulu but we managed to communicate somehow. She sat in this spot most days watching the volunteers interact with the children and always had a crowd around her. She is an amazing woman letting the parents or guardians of the kids pay with what they can, or sometimes not at all, for her services.          		 Driving through the village every day was always better than the previous day. As I got to know more and more people in the community, I would stop and say sawubona (hello) to friends and wave to kids who knew me from the school.     Lonely Tree. On the plains, which are mostly covered with grass and small scrubs, one will find riverbeds, which usually is densely populated by Acacia trees. This isolated Acacia however, made for a good picture with the small moon setting just above the mountain ridge. : by karoo, Views[939]

    As the sun begins to set we found ourselves passing through a small chicken farm. After speaking to a few of the residents we found out that the sole purpose for this community was to run the chicken farm. It was a Sunday afternoon and the local community had gathered out in the sunshine to watch their weekly football match and support their local team.          		 Riebeek Kasteel is big on small business – you won't find any chain stores here (apart from a general grocer). This is a little (and it is really tiny) coffee shop that roast and ground their own coffee.          		 One of the pleasures experienced when visiting Riebeek Kasteel is that no one cares about time but they do about each other and when you sit down in a coffee shop or restaurant the table is yours for as long as you want it. For me, this picture epitomise that timeless feeling. The frayed hat; a word puzzle and not suduko; a newspaper not a tablet.
