         		 The little boy in the orange beanie had been drawing a yellow school bus when we walked into his classroom at The Hope Project. There were fifteen of us Canadians crowded into their small classroom. He looked around at us nervously but continued to draw glancing at us from time to time. I asked him what he was drawing but his English was not very good. I took a video of his drawing and showed it to him. A small smile crept over his face and his two neighbours jumped to get a better look.     In the middle of Hazamat Nizamuddin, a neighbourhood in Delhi, there is a community outreach centre called The Hope Project. We were given a tour of the facilities from the classrooms to the beauty school to the sewing classes. In one of the more dangerous neighbourhoods, where my teacher had her wallet stolen, it was a bastion for hope.: by michellek, Views[813]
         		 In the background of this picture, there is a little community centre situated atop a sari shop. There is a pink cement widing staircase that leads up to a verandah where two women had been pounding little pieces of dough into chapati. Every night after the puja, the community centre gives out food to the poor and homeless. We were there to help distribute the food. While waiting for everyone, I turned back and saw this group of policemen. There were non-functional metal detectors located all along the entrances to the ghats.          		 We were all packed in our car to drive back to Delhi from Jaipur. PJ, our driver, was standing guard outside as we waited for our friends visiting the monkey temple to come back down. At the base of the monkey temple, the alley was large and teeming with monkeys. A cow was meandering the dirt road and a baby monkey took a ride on a hog. The locals were beginning to crowd our car curious about who we were, where we were from and what we wanted to buy from their shop. PJ wanted us to stay in the car away from these men.          		 When jetlag made our sleep impossible, we tagged along as a friend took a 5am tour in Varanasi, India of the ghats. The city was just waking up and yet, each junction was energetic as people headed to work or children to school. Our guide walked us through the street, nonchalantly ignoring the speeding rickshaws flying past us. It was our first day in India and the strangeness was overwhelming. This picture was taken atop a looking out point near the burning ghat.          		 There are estimated to be fewer than 8,000 Dongria alive today. Their way of life is still, in many ways, primitive and harsh. Many fear that modernity and development could mean an end to their ancient way of life. : by moska, Views[1677]

         		 Dongria women are not only strikingly beautiful but strong as well. They contribute inside and outside the household and are on equal footing with their male counterparts; a reason why the bride price is paid to a girl's parents when she gets married which is a unique feature of their tradition. : by moska, Views[1419]
         		 The Dongria have lived in the Niyamgiri hills in a remote part of eastern India's Orissa state for centuries. They live off the land and survive by gathering fruit and selling jungle plants in the towns at the foot of the hills. Her playful smile and shy expression against the wise and worldly expression of the men is a wonderful contrast.
