    The local government of Gunungkidul has developed an enormous reservoir called Embung Nglanggeran. In Javanese, “embung” means pond. This artificial lake is built in the peak of primeval volcano Nglanggeran, around 500 metres above sea level. It is used for watering purposes and, recently, as tourism attraction as well. by: tranquillity Views[897] Imsak, 27 year old, a young villager from Semanu, Gunungkidul, took a “wudhu” or an Islamic ritual before praying. Every roof gutter is arranged to flow the rainwater to fill in their reservoir tubs. When the dry season lasts long, they get to buy clean water from the supplier. This costs them around IDR 150,000 (AUD 15) per 5,000 litre.
