    During the rainy season, people in the karts area (the south part of Gunungkidul) develop the “rainwater harvesting” by using their individual reservoir tub outside their houses. Every roof gutter is arranged to flow the rainwater to fill in their reservoir tubs. When the dry season lasts long, they get to buy clean water from the supplier. This costs them around IDR 150,000 (AUD 15) per 5,000 litre. He lives a few blocks away, but his family owns a cane field behind my neighbourhood. The cane are harvest once in a year. After it's being harvested, the remaining plants have to be burnt before the farmers could plant the new plants. Mr. Nik works as a factory labor on week days and takes care of his field on Sundays. by: lieshabear Views[894] The effects of a growing city is the growth of the housing which can expand to the far side of the city. Most affordable housing are small houses, built from what used to be a farming field. Some field still existing between those houses, like this chili field that is being harvest by Lastri. She is one of the locals that lives behind my neighbourhood and still owns her family field.     Workers are often using the turbid canal which comes from the Ciliwung River(Turbid water river)and flows into the sea, for moving from one ship to another for trasfering the stocks and the workers.     Fishing in your own yard is a common thing if you happen to live next to the sea. In this village next to the Sunda Kelapa port, it's called Kampung Air or literally sea village. Some of the houses are above the sea water. It's even possible to fish up from your own porch here. Convenient probably to some, but hygienic factor does not always the main part in this village. Harsh environment conditions has become a day to day common thing. They working hours does not even better either. Some of them even started earlier than the Sunrise and the job does not even complete after the Sunset.
