    Trekking along the south side of mountain while moving from Karanga Valley up to Barafu Hut. Now well above 4000m, the clouds are below us and we see sunshine for the first time in four days. by: bmckamey Views[1504] Located at 3000 meters above sea level, and about six miles from the beginning of the trek to the summit of Kilimanjaro, the Machame Hut campsite is the first rest stop on the seven day trip. by: bmckamey Views[1237] This is of my father, Sultan, climbing a mountain in the village of Tawiyah. He didn't grow up here, but in a village near by, Al Kamil. My father has family in Tawiyah so we spend time there when I visit Oman. My father grew up selling, harvesting, picking, and selling dates to pay his way to attend school in Saudi Arabia.
