    Crete, Greece by: livefasttravel Views[271] Vikos Gorge is in the Guiness Book of Records as the deepest gorge in the world with a drop of 1000m at its deepest point. Its more like an Amazonian world in there with fresh waters channelling down.     A 2 and a half hour drive from our base camp driving over high mountain passes saw us arriving at Gythio. We visited solely to capture this shipwreck called The residents of Gennadi don’t seem to worry too much about the state of things, and won’t pass up an opportunity to get together. In true laid-back Greek style, they held their annual fishing competition one evening on the beach in front of the town. It was quiet in Kiotari. Many of the hotel sun chairs were left empty; a reflection of the slow start to the holiday season as a result of the poor economic climate. Rhodes island is dominated by the tourism industry, with the endless days of sun and consistent wind ordinarily drawing sunbakers and watersport enthusiasts from all over Europe.
