    Three generations in Dimen, a Dong-minority village in China's Guizhou Province. Since the young generation often has to leave their homes for jobs in the city, it's the grandparents who bring up the children. The Dong people teach children about life by making up songs - something that is also used when trying to impress a love interest. by: guizhouimpressions Views[1086] The whole village works on a new building, even children and elderly are involved. Since Dimen is hidden amidst Guizhou's endless mountain ranges, the villagers are still used to making everything themselves -mostly as a community effort. by: guizhouimpressions Views[1161] A grandfather & his granddaughter are resting in the shade of one of Dimen's bridges. What I've noticed is that they were usually male dominated. As such, this young girl caught my immediate attention. She struck me as a non-conformist, someone who goes out of the way to satisfy her own curiosity and acquire more knowledge, even if it's unconventional.     I chanced upon this bunch of kids along the back streets of Yarkand (Xinjiang, Western China) participating in what seems to be the most popular childhood activity in town. It requires a deck of round cards and the players' ability to toss each card against the ground perpendicularly so that it would bounce back up and override the opponent's card. Watching them in complete indulgence makes me realize; that games and fun take form in the simplest possible way, and does not always have to involve the latest electronic gadgets. After climbing 328 stairs, we reach the summit of the hill, where we find Wat Chom Si, a Buddhist temple, which is one of the main attactions of this old town. This river is the heart of Vang Vieng and many locals depend on it. It's a beautiful and peaceful town with the serenety of the mountains as a background. by: rosafurtado Views[1735] A peek into the life of a typical Uyghur family, in Xinjiang, Western China. It appears that bonding over a freshly sliced melon is an integral part of their culture. There is this great sense of intimacy that radiates from them, when you see them relishing the sweetness, in both the fruit as well as the kinship. by: priscilla_ong Views[1124] This is exactly how I was greeted on my first day of travel to Xinjiang, Western China. It was difficult to sit through the entire slaughter, although I must admit there is evidently an interest in the transitional process. It does make me look at my plate differently, and wish it has remained as a black box that mysteriously transforms animals into something edible.
