    Weddings in this island last 8 days and the couple must remain sitting like that. They don't use invitations, all the people in the island (about 2.200) must go to the wedding party. Instead of observing others at The Musuem of Contemporary Art in Sydney, I turned the lens on my own personal interaction with one of Anish Kapoor’s reflective works. Making myself part of the art experience. The reflective environment provided by the artist and the composition captured by the photographer. A little collaboration between me and Anish Kapoor (This photo was taken with an iPhone) by: clarebardsleysmith Views[572] (4) Anish Kapoor is one of the most recognisable contemporary artists in the world today. The Museum of Contemporary Art is featuring some of his works for the first time in the gallery. This photograph looks not only at Kapoor’s reflective work ‘The Sydney Eye’, it also looks at what an object is, in relation to other things. In this case, Kapoor’s circular work reflecting the sky around Sydney, is juxtaposed against the solid square matt mass of the museum itself. It is fitting because Kapoor’s work looks at ideas of form, voids and content, and how an object can be and not be. I was particularly pleased to catch this moment of two workers shining the great reflective surface, preparing the work for the public gaze, themselves becoming a piece of art in my photograph. (This photo was taken with an iPhone) by: clarebardsleysmith Views[726] (3) This image of a young girl running past the work “Stasis’ by Claire Healy and Sean Cordeiro outside the front of the Museum of Contemporary Art in Sydney, looks at the idea of active participation in public art. We can without knowing, be creating art, while observing it. With the plane heading off to the left and the girl running off to the viewers right, I was lucky that her bright pink dress helped to tie the two elements together. (This photo was taken with an iPhone) by: clarebardsleysmith Views[676] (2) In the Museum of Contemporary Art in Sydney, a nearby glass exhibition case creates a horizontal distortion of Nick Savvas’ vertical artwork “Showtime 1999”, when a MCA guest walks by. In a gentle wink to the viewer, I was playing with the idea of making art with art. There is Savvas’ work and then there is my addition to it, which can add to or alter the original meaning. A very contemporary idea. Ideas about how we make and record art, who is the author of the works we create and how globalisation and technology change the way we communicate with each other, are all playing out in everyday life.     (1) The Museum of Contemporary Art in Sydney, looks out over the Harbour Bridge and the Sydney Opera House and has recently been renovated. It houses some of the best collection of contemporary artists in the world today. I wanted to photograph how people interact with public art in a post modern world. There is now an almost expected interactive experience at every corner, due to how we now use technology to document our lives. With the advent of social media and the almost shameless self promotion of the individual, new ideas about the role of the artist as the sole contributor to work are being left behind. It is in this vain and in keeping with the idea of interactivity, I chose to use mobile photography as the photographic medium to document this ‘place I have visited’ In this example a young woman with appropriately colour co-ordinated earphones, takes a profile shot of herself in front of Robert Owen’s ‘Sunrise’ exhibit. This exhibit concentrates on light and colour and it’s structure allows for the re-organisation of the pieces for different spaces. The girl looks like she was created especially to be part of this exhibition. An accidental collaboration. She takes a picture of herself to preserve the moment, while I observe her, observing herself. She represents the future of the pacific, the future that Te Mana o Te Moana sailed across the pacific for, raising awareness and inspiring action to protect and care for our oceans. by: rawhitiroa Views[915] A Warriors Gaze: A Solomon Island Warrior leads his tribe onto the Honiara sports field as part of the welcoming ceremony. It was a spectacular show of colour and culture as delegates from all the pacific nations came dressed in traditional garments and performed traditional dances, songs and chants for the 30,000 strong crowd. by: rawhitiroa Views[2076] The Dawn Arrival: After more than a week of sailing day and night from Vanuatu the fleet of Te Mana o Te Moana arrives in the Solomon Islands. The fleet of 7 Vaka Moana reef their sails and await the dawn welcoming ceremony with thousands of locals gathered on the beach. Conch shells are blown and haka performed announcing the arrival. by: rawhitiroa Views[1064] Wash Time at Sea: 3 days sail out from the nearest land in any direction, Te Matau-a-Maui crew member Richard Smith leaps off the Bowsprite of the Vaka Moana covered in soap.     The Captains Watch: Sailing on a Traditional Polynesian Voyaging Canoe or Vaka Moana, Te Matau-a-Maui Captain Frank Kawe and Watch Captain Patrick Mohi lead the fleet out towards the Solomon Islands, the final leg of an epic 18month voyage to all ends of the pacific ocean. When sailing out to sea, all responsibility for the crew's safety and arrival at the final destination rests on the captains shoulders. by: rawhitiroa Views[1733] A young boy watches as the ground is turned in preparation for a new crop in the upcoming months. by: marshalchupa Views[712] A world away from technology, a little girl finds the simplest of entertainment. by: marshalchupa Views[746] The children were seen as that gatekeepers of the village and this little girl bares the keys to unlock the latch on her family’s mud hut. by: marshalchupa Views[1094] A village constructed from mud, sticks, and palm is home to the roaming children in white.     The Kogi children are nothing like I’ve seen before. Not only does this little girl bare the responsibility to her two younger siblings but also to provide for her family by sowing their traditional Mochila used for collecting coca leaves. by: marshalchupa Views[1053] This is Kasper Fredericks who crafts and sells his scrap metal windmills to tourists, his only source of income.
